6. Preparing the Chamber for Use
1. Position the Chamber
- Place on a flat, clean floor.
- Ensure ventilation around the compressor machines.
- Keep away from fireplaces or open flames.
- Keep out of rooms with pets or unsupervised children.
2. Power On the System
- Turn on the Air Pressurizer/Oxygen Concentrator Unit.
- Turn on the AC Cooler/Dehumidifier (if included).
- Ensure airflow is coming through the oxygen line.
7. Entering the Chamber
A. Entering While Someone Else Closes the Chamber
- Step inside carefully.
- Lay down comfortably and place the oxygen mask on your face.
- Verify oxygen is flowing through the mask.
- The operator closes the chamber:
Closing From the Outside
- Close the inner zipper fully.
- Lay the blue membrane flat between the zippers.
- Close the outer zipper, ensuring a complete seal.
- Fully close the manual valve.
B. Entering & Closing the Chamber By Yourself (Solo Entry)
- Enter the chamber with the blue membrane folded inward.
- Pull the outer zipper closed from the inside, ensuring it is fully sealed.
- Tuck the blue membrane upward between the two zipper tracks.
- Close the inner zipper completely.
- Fully close the manual valve.
8. Pressurizing the Chamber
Pressurization takes 5–10 minutes.
Steps:
- Ensure your oxygen mask is on.
- Ensure the manual valve is closed.
- Relax and equalize your ears as pressure increases.
- Temperature may rise slightly—this is normal.
Ear Equalization Tips
- Gently swallow
- Yawn
- Move your jaw side to side
- Perform the Valsalva maneuver (close mouth, pinch nose, blow gently)
IMPORTANT!!!: If you are unable to equalize your ears—stop and depressurize immediately.
9. During the Session
Remain inside 60–90 minutes.
Set a timer.
If you experience any of the following, stop immediately:
- Sharp ear pain
- Sharp chest pain
- Sudden difficulty breathing
- Oxygen stops flowing
- Lightheadedness or confusion
If oxygen flow stops:
- Do NOT stay in the chamber.
- Depressurize immediately using the manual valve.
- Exit the chamber only after pressure reaches zero.
- !!!! NEVER attempt to open zippers under pressure.
10. Emergency Procedure
RED Decompression Valve
If emergency symptoms occur (ear pain, chest pain, panic, breathing difficulty):
- Press and HOLD the RED emergency decompression valve.
- The chamber will depressurize faster than normal.
- Once the chamber softens and pressure reads zero, open the zippers and exit.
Use only in true emergencies.
11. Ending a Session – Proper Depressurization
IMPORTANT:
Do NOT turn off airflow during depressurization. Keep all machines running until after you exit.
Depressurization occurs in 3 stages:
1. Small Turn (¼ turn)
- Open the manual valve ¼ turn
- Wait 2 minutes
2. Medium Turn (additional ½ turn)
- Open another ½ turn
- Wait 1 minute
- Your ears may pop again.
- Pressure gauge will begin dropping.
3. Full Open
- Turn the manual valve 1 full turn
- Wait until the chamber walls soften and deflate.
- Once pressure reaches zero, safely unzip and exit.
12. After Exiting the Chamber
- Leave the chamber unzipped to allow airflow and prevent odors.
- Turn off:
- Air Pressurizer / Oxygen Unit
- AC Cooler / Dehumidifier
- Coil hoses neatly; keep off the floor to avoid dust.
13. Oxygen Toxicity – Short Explanation
mHBOT uses mild pressure (1.3–1.5 ATA) and 90–100% oxygen. At this level, oxygen toxicity is extremely rare, but possible if:
- Sessions exceed 90 minutes
- User takes more than 2 sessions per day
- User has untreated lung disease
Signs of Oxygen Toxicity
If any occur, end your session:
- Tunnel vision
- Ringing in the ears
- Facial twitching
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Irritability or unusual anxiety
- Chest discomfort
If symptoms continue after exiting, contact a healthcare provider.
14. Maintenance & Care
Daily
- Inspect zippers for full seal
